"I enjoy making a living being a fishing guide mostly because I get to fish most every day. I know a lot of people wish they could! I consider myself fortunate to make a living at what I enjoy doing. I also enjoy trying to figure out where the fish will be on any given day. Things change pretty quickly in the fishing game and it is a challenge to try and find the best fishing every day in the conditions you are given that day. I really enjoy teaching people how to fish and seeing the smiles on their faces when they are catching fish and having a good time on the water. "

For Chad, putting a smile on a young angler's face is one of the great joys of working as a fishing guide.

Chad Benson lives in Bemidji, MN and spends most of his time fishing & hunting within 30 miles of town. The Bemidji area has a lot if really good hunting & fishing nearby and that is why Chad chooses to call it home. Chad's home lake is Cass Lake, and is still his favorite lake to fish. Although he spends a lot of time on Cass Lake, he also spends quite a bit of time on Lake Bemidji and Lake Plantagenet.
Chad started guiding part time back in the early 90’s and at that time he spent most of his time guiding for Crappie, Bluegill and Perch. He specialized in taking clients in to some of the smaller lakes in the backwoods .
Gradually learning to fish walleyes on Lake Bemidji and Cass Lake, Chad has become one of the area's most successful Walleye guides and a top competitor on some of the better area Walleye tournaments. Both are very good walleye fisheries and also have really good Yellow Perch fishing too.

Chad's favorite type of fishing trips are fishing for Walleye in the fall. When they start moving into deeper water, It is fun to run around and find them with on the electronics and then try and figure out what they want that particular day. Vertical jigging is a specialty of Chad's and is one of his favorite ways to catch them during the fall months.
